You are quite right when you say that college teachers want the facts. However, a single or couple well-used metaphors can brighten an English teacher’s day. I would not say we are looking to avoid all creativity, just to channel it and limit its use to effective levels.

Yes, finally I can show my children I am not the only one who thinks there is a “time and place” for different types of writing. I think you also have to learn when to use each type. Looking forward to the rest of your posts!

Ooh I am so excited about hearing the formula!! My husband and I (and in turn, our children) have no problem with the creative part of writing. It is the just put bare facts that we struggle with.

I want to thank you for your thoughts on writing. I agree with you. I have one child that is a VERY natural writer.. creative and learned the “tricks” too. I have another one that I am struggling to learn the basics.. and the other two well I am not sure how they are going to be yet. But, I am VERY excited to hear the tricks.. because it is an area I struggle in. Thanks so much. God bless.
