Nature Study 101

Explore the outdoors and make it fun!

How to Nature Study

  • The most important element of time in nature is free play. Let your children explore and study on their own to figure out what they find interesting. Nature is not a time for lessons!

  • Your planner encourages weekly nature study and makes sure time outdoors is on your schedule!

  • Use field guides or apps to help identify plants and animals so your children can keep a record of their discoveries.

  • Make the rewards of identification even more enjoyable with games and creative activities that build a child's store of knowledge. Create scavenger hunts, sighting goals or a collection shelf!

  • A child's nature journal is their own special record of observations. They can include dates and times, locations, weather conditions, drawings, specimens and more!
